Application categories

The Foundation supports persons and institutions according to the following categories:

  1. Research and education abroad.
  2. Special activities offered by the film- and TV-industry, organisations, and institutes of education.
  3. The carrying into effect of jubilee celebrations, publications in relation to film and TV etc.
  4. Independent project development concerning new production techniques for motion pictures.

1. Research and education
This category primarily contributes to candidates who have been accepted at well respected foreign schools – for instance The National Film and Television School in England or The American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Annually 35-40 applications are received from persons wishing to educate themselves in the field of Film & TV. Typically we grant approximately 15-20 scholarships – either completely or partially.

Furthermore the Foundation has initiated a co-operation with The European Film College in Ebeltoft. From The Foundation this institution annually receives DKK 190.000 that will be shared among economically challenged students. Two special Nordisk Film scholarships worth DKK 60.000 are granted each year.

2. Special activities offered by the film- and TV-industry, organisations, and institutes of education
The Foundation supports educational activities, conferences, and film festivals. For years the Foundation has supported Super16, an alternative film school in Denmark, The Animation Workshop and the other media schools in Viborg. Furthermore both The Egmont Foundation and The Nordisk Film Foundation have supported the establishment of FilmX in Cinemateket, Copenhagen.

The Foundation has also supported innumerable festival and conferences through the years. Among them Buster, Cartoon Forum 2005, Natfilm Festivalen, Cph:Dox, Århus Film Festival, tvfestival.dk, and Copenhagen International Film Festival. But also smaller projects like Hacienda Open 2004 have enjoyed funding from The Nordisk Film Foundation.

3. The carrying into effect of jubilee celebrations, publications in relation to film and TV etc.
Category 3 supports publication of books, such as Peter Schepelern’s “100 års dansk film”, ”Danske Filmskuespillere” by Morten Piil, DVD-publications of Danish silent movies and in 2004 Torben Glarbo’s documentation of the history and evolution of Danish short and documentary films. Furthermore The Foundation has for several years supported Danish Film Photographer’s contribution to the jubilee book about film photography.

4. Independent project development concerning new production techniques for motion pictures
Category 4 supports initiatives like Filmkontakt Nord’s development of a broadband based market platform for short and documentary films, along with the publication of a sound archive: “Sound of Denmark”.
