Since 1996 The Nordisk Film Foundation has distributed an honorary award by the name of The Nordisk Film Award. The award is given to one or more persons who have contributed in an extraordinary way to the Danish media environment.

2006: Cartoonist and director Anders Morgenthaler
2007: Director Peter Schønau Fog
The award money consists of DDK 1.000 multiplied with the age of Nordisk Film. In 2006 Nordisk Film will celebrate its one hundred years anniversary.

The committee behind The Nordisk Film Award consists of the following persons:

- Peter Schepelern, Lecturer at Film and Media Science at Københavns Universitet
- Birgitte Hald, Producer, Nimbus Film
- Rumle Hammerich, Producer and Director, Nordisk Film
- Michael Ritto, Managing Director, Nordisk Film (Chairman)
The committee decides who will receive The Nordisk Film Award each year. The award is either given to a person who has made an extraordinary contribution to Danish film through the years, or to a new talent expected to perform very well in the media world of tomorrow.
