Post Production

Post production is everything that is done to the film after the shooting is completed. It is development, sound, colour grading, editing, digital formatting, and all other kinds of technical mastering.

The actual footage composes a film’s DNA or backbone. But it is post production that really brings the film to life. Here sharp edges are round off, blank spots are filled out and layers of Computer Generated Images are added. Post production is the stage where the film enters adolescence and learns to exist on its own.

Sound design is a mysterious thing. Nordisk Films uses a Foley Studio for creating sound effects. Even if a prop sounds perfectly fine when shooting a scene, the sound will be replaced by a superior artificial one. For instance the clacking of hoofs on cobblestone is made by smacking to halved coconuts together in the sound studio. Film sound is nothing but deception. And the fun part is that nobody would ever notice it if we kept it a secret.

Post production also acts as the filmmaker’s safety net. If a director needs to shoot an additional outdoor summer scene, but it is January, post production can change the light and colour of the shot to make it look like summer.

Nordisk Film has post production units in DenmarkNorway and Sweden.
