Stardom in Valby

From 1988 to 1996 ‘Eleva2ren’ was THE entertainment show on Danish TV2. The programs were produced at Nordisk Film in Valby – read some of the anecdotes here.

An appearance on ‘Eleva2ren’ could kick-start the career of upcoming bands. When Scottish pop-band Texas played on ‘Eleva2ren’, they had only sold a few hundred copies of their album in Denmark. In the week following their appearance, several thousand LPs were shifted.

As of the third season of the popular Danish entertainment show, the program’s music productions had become so famous that multi-national record companies jumped at the chance to promote their stars on ‘Eleva2ren’, as soon as they got the call. Mega-stars such as David Bowie, Tina Turner, Cliff Richard, Pete Townsend, Curtis Stigers, Take That, B.B. King, the Bee Gees, Harry Belafonte, Tom Jones, and more, came to Valby to perform in the TV show.

When British teen-sensation Take That appeared on ‘Eleva2ren’ in 1993, thousands of girls gathered at Nordisk Film’s main gate. A TV-production assistant, who happened to resemble lead singer Gary Barlow was instructed to pace the grounds in front of Studio 3, diverting the attention of the crowd so that Take That could leave through the back door unnoticed. The following week the main gate had to be repaired for damages caused by crowd pressure.
