The film market and the festival in Cannes have come to an end and the last acquisitions agreements have come into place.

Nordisk Film has spent a considerable sum of money on film rights, which means that a large number of quality films with star cast are on their way to the Nordic consumers.

Nordisk Film has returned from Cannes Film Festival with a full shopping basket: “We are thoroughly happy. We have spent a large amount of money and secured the rights for 36 films including some big theatrical titles”, says Peter Philipsen, head of Nordisk Film’s Film Acquisitions Department.

The acquisitions include a broad range of titles; from big theatrical films to good video films; from art - house to mainstream.

Among the important theatrical titles, a couple should be mentioned;”Goya’s Ghosts” by Saul Zaentz and Milos Forman - also the team behind Academy Award Winning “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” and “Amadeus”. Their new film has Stellan Skarsgård, Natalie Portman and Javier Bardem in the lead roles.

”Babel” is a drama with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. “The Good Shepherd”, directed by Robert DeNiro, includes Matt Damon, Angeline Jolie, Alec Baldwin and William Hurt in their cast.

The sequel to the suspense hit “The Grudge” is also coming to the Nordic consumers.

Also Robert Benigni’s new project “The Tiger and the Snow” will be distributed by Nordisk Film. It is a very large European production which, apart from Beningni himself, has Nicoletta Braschi and Jean Reno on the cast list.

The story is both touching and unique, and Nordisk Film hopes it will have the same impact as “Life is beautiful”.

The shopping list also includes the Nicolas Cage film “Crazy Dog”, a new film from Lasse Hallström, “The Hoax” with Richard Gere in the lead role and the thriller “Void Man” with Uma Thurman, Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey.

“Flyboys” also deserves a mention. It is an action/adventure film which takes place during World War 1 and describes the so - called Dog Fights between those days’ air fighters. It is an intense and grandiose  film produced by the man behind among others ”Independence Day”, ”The Patriot” , ”Godzilla”, “Dean Devlin”. ”Flyboys” has James Franco and Jean Reno in its lead roles.

The Nordisk Film shopping list also counts a large portfolio of film titles for both cinema, video and TV.
