A BIT OF FIXING
A Bit of Fixing is a lifestyle program which aired on the Finnish channel MTV3 for the first time on October 26th, 2006. The idea of the program is to show how renovation and a bit of fixing and styling can increase the value of your home.
The homes have been chosen out of several hundred applicants, showing a variety of people, life situations and Finnish living, from small studio apartments to large family homes.
Three interior designers are chosen for each episode, they listen to the wishes of the owner/s and are given a budget within which to work. After some time to work on their plans, they pitch their ideas showing how they would use the owners’ money to refurbish the site. Sometimes the budget is small and consists mainly of cleaning and clearing more space and some locations have a large budget allowing more work to be done. The emphasis of the plan must be on bringing the best out of the home and getting the best possible price for it within a short time span – once the decision is made, most people want to sell their homes quickly and with ease.
The designers are varying from long-time professionals to trendy young talents and amateurs with a sense of style. After the owner has chosen the plan they wish to go with, the face lift is made and a new real-estate agent brought in to evaluate the apartment. After this it is put on sale with a new price tag. The selling of the homes is either shown on the program or followed on the program’s website.
A Finnish website is available on http://www.mtv3.fi/pientapintaremonttia.
