Game-creation platform Kogama.com receives investment from leading entertainment group

24.11.2017

Danish gaming and game-creation platform Kogama.com has three million active users every month and strong growth potential. Now, leading Nordic entertainment group Nordisk Film has completed an investment in the company behind Kogama.

Danish gaming studio Multiverse aims to accelerate its international growth following an investment that gives Nordic entertainment group Nordisk Film an ownership share of 40 per cent of Multiverse.

Multiverse is the creator of gaming platform Kogama.com that has over three million active users worldwide. The investment will primarily allow for further development of Kogama with even more features and tools to unleash the users’ creativity. Kogama strives to become a gaming equivalent to YouTube.

Founded in 2010, Multiverse has previously obtained seed investment from Danish investment and development company Capnova. The partnership with Nordisk Film will now enable Multiverse to expand and grow Kogama, especially in English-language territories.

”We are very happy to partner with Nordisk Film. The investment allows us to take Kogama to the next level. We will be able to increase our development efforts by recruiting more web and games developers, and we will commence a focused marketing effort”, said Michal Bendtsen, CEO and co-founder of Multiverse.

Two million games created

Kogama is a gaming platform allowing users to build their own games. They are made of virtual building blocks and game logic that can be combined to create entirely new game experiences. The games are published on Kogama.com, where they can be played by the network’s millions of users or integrated on other web pages. To date, more than two million different games have been created and published on the platform.

”We think of Kogama as a social platform very much equivalent to YouTube. At YouTube, users upload videos that can be streamed by other users. At Kogama, users create computer games that are uploaded and shared with others. Kogama engages a broad crowd – we have users in nearly fifty different countries”, said Michal Bendtsen.

Impressive user growth

Nordisk Film’s investment in Multiverse is part of the entertainment company’s overall strategy of investing in a number of Nordic game development studios. Nordisk Film has already acquired minority positions in Copenhagen-based Flashbulb Games and Stockholm- and New York-based Avalanche Studios.

”Kogama has an impressive user growth and the company is run by very experienced and professional founders. With limited resources, they have managed to gain more than three million active users, simply because of an extremely strong concept and terrific execution. We believe, that Kogama has great global potential and we look forward to working with the team to unleash that potential”, said Martin Walfisz, Senior Partner at Nordisk Film Games.

Multiverse has seven employees and the company’s partners are its CEO and co-founder Michal Bendtsen, CTO and co-founder Christian Fehrenkamp Rask Larsen and Partner Jakob Sillesen.
