Nordisk Film has teamed up with Film i Väst and Sveriges Television to fund Swedish quality films that will reach a wider audience.

Each film is expected to cost SEK 35-50 million, of which up to SEK 25 million will be funded by the three partners. These are significantly higher budgets than the costs usually associated with the average Swedish film.

”This is also a way to motivate more of our talented filmmakers within Swedish film to focus on a wider range of quality films that have greater potential of reaching an international audience,” says Lone Korslund, Head of Nordic Co-productions and Acquisitions, Nordisk Film.

The joint venture clearly signifies the three key players’ wish to improve the quality of Swedish films and encourage more Swedish cinema-goers and TV-viewers to see local films.

”Our venture can be seen as a shot in the arm to the Swedish film sector, which needs to raise its production quality in order to reach a broader audience. The goal is to raise the market share of domestic films on the Swedish repertoire,” says Tomas Eskilsson, CEO for Film i Väst.

Nordisk Film will be responsible for the Nordic distribution of the current film projects and TrustNordisk for international sales. Sveriges Television will have the national transmission rights for free TV.
