The son of Bjørn Borg, Leo Borg, will be playing a young version of the tennis icon in the new BORG movie

The new BORG film has attracted considerable attention both in Sweden and outside of Scandinavia.

The film has been shot in Sweden, Prague, London and Monaco, and the Guldbaggen winner Sverrir Gudnason will play the role of the legendary tennis icon Bjorn Borg. Today it is revealed that the role of the young Bjorn Borg is played by Leo Borg – the youngest son of real life Bjorn Borg.

Three different actors will be portraying Bjorn Borg with Sverrir Gudnason playing the lead role in the film which takes place in the 1970s and 1980s.

- That Leo applied for the role and already played tennis was a pure fluke. Furthermore he is interested in filmmaking and is a natural in front of the camera. It has been fantastic to work with Leo. His contribution to the authenticity of the film in a story that takes us behind the scenes of the legend Bjorn Borg is invaluable, says director Janus Metz.

On Facebook earlier this year there was a search for boys at the age 6-17 years interested in sports for a Swedish film. Leo applied for the role without knowing that the film was about Bjorn Borg and that he was to portray a young version of his own father.

- We have worked very hard with the casting for BORG. When Leo contacted us and then delivered such a strong performance for his audition, we felt that it was almost too good to be true. Both Leo Borg and Mark Mossberg, who plays Bjorn Borg as a teenager, has done a really good job, and we are more than satisfied with their performance in the film, says Jon Nohrstedt. He is producing the film together with Fredrik Wikström for SF Studios.

The role of John McEnroe is being played by the well-known actor Shia LaBeouf, Stellan Skarsgard as Lennart "Labbe" Bergelin and Tuva Novotny as Mariana Simionescu.
The film is directed by Janus Metz, who previously directed the Cannes-winning film Armadillo and an episode of the critically acclaimed television series True Detective.

BORG is produced by SF Studios Production in co-production with Film Väst, SVT, Nordisk Film, Yellow Film & TV, SF Studios Production A/S and Sirena Film with support from SFI, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, DFI, FFF and MEDIA and DR & YLE. The film is distributed by Nordisk Film Distribution and is expected to premiere in the fall of 2017. International sales of the film are handled by SF Studios.
