Three films selected for Fantastic Fest

Scandinavian thriller THE ABSENT ONE, the English-speaking drama I AM HERE both produced by Zentropa and the Norwegian action comedy IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE produced by Paradox have been selected for Fantastic Fest – the largest and most influential genre film festival in the United States.

THE ABSENT ONE
THE ABSENT ONE is directed by Mikkel Nørgaard and is the second instalment in the Department Q franchise based on the bestselling books by Jussi Adler-Olsen. This marks Mikkel Nørgaard’s return to the festival as Nørgaard’s highly popular comedy KLOWN (2010) was successfully launched at Fantastic Fest back in 2011 where it took home the prize for Best Comedy.
THE ABSENT ONE reunites Nikolaj Lie Kaas (A SECOND CHANCE, 2014) and Fares Fares (CHILD 44, 2014 and ZERO DARK THIRTY, 2012) and tells the story of two young twins who are found brutally murdered in a summer cottage in 1994. A number of clues point in the direction of a group of young upper class students from a nearby boarding school, but the case is closed as a local outsider pleads guilty and is convicted for the murders. Among cast members are also acclaimed actors Pilou Asbæk (LUCY, 2014 and A HIJACKING, 2012) and David Dencik (A ROYAL AFFAIR, 2012 and TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, 2011).
THE ABSENT ONE is produced by Louise Vesth, Jonas Bagger and Peter Aalbæk Jensen for the Zentropa Group in cooperation with TV 2 Danmark, ZDF German Television Network, ZDF Enterprises, TV4 Sverige, TV 2 Norge in co-production with Film i Väst. I AM HERE
World premiering at Fantastic Fest is also Anders Morgenthaler’s drama I AM HERE starring Academy Award®-winning Kim Basinger (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, 1997; GRUDGE MATCH, 2013) in the leading role.
I AM HERE tells the story of a successful business executive, struggling to fulfill her greatest wish of all: to bring a child into the world. After suffering yet another miscarriage, a doctor informs Maria that she's too old to carry a child and her whole world comes crashing down. Devastated and unable to accept her fate, Maria sets out on a desperate and perilous quest to realize her dream of motherhood.
Also starring are Peter Stormare (FARGO, 1996; ARMAGEDDON, 1998), Jordan Prentice (IN BRUGES, 2008; MIRROR, MIRROR, 2012) and Sebastian Schipper (RUN LOLA RUN, 1998; 3, 2010).
Anders Morgenthaler has shown great diversity in his work ranging from serious dramas to children’s content to satirical comic strips. Morgenthaler’s feature film debut, the animated film PRINCESS, opened Director’s Fortnight in Cannes 2006. PRINCESS was followed by the psychological thriller ECHO (2007) which became an instant festival darling.

IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE
The third film selected for Fantastic Fest is Hans Petter Moland’s Berlin Competition title IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE, which tells the story about Nils (Stellan Skarsgård) who drives a snow blower and has a carefree life in snow covered Norway, until his son’s death suddenly puts him in the middle of a drug war between the Norwegian mafia and Serbian criminals.
Other cast members include Bruno Ganz (DOWNFALL, 2004), Pål Sverre Hagen (KON-TIKI, 2012), Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (BORGEN 2010-2013), Kristofer Hivju (GAME OF THRONES, 2013) and one of this year’s Berlin Shooting Stars Jakob Oftebro (KON-TIKI, 2012).
IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE is produced by Finn Gjerdrum and Stein B. Kvae from Norwegian production company Paradox and supported by the Norwegian Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Eurimages, Film3 and Film i Väst.
Fantastic Fest takes place from September 18th to September 25th 2014.
