The Danish film "A War", directed by Tobias Lindholm and produced by Nordisk Film, is nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Foreign Language Film.

The film stars Pilou Asbæk and tells the story about a Danish company commander in Afghanistan who during combat decides to have enemy territory bombed resulting in civilian causalities. When returning to Denmark he faces a court martial while struggling to hold his family together.

"I am deeply honoured. Our film about the Danish involvement in the war in Afghanistan has been on a fantastic international journey," says the film's writer and director Tobias Lindholm.

"I share this overwhelming honour with my entire film crew. And especially with those soldiers, refugees, relatives and lawyers whose experience from the war in Afghanistan has made this film possible. I've often spoken about the dependence my films have upon reality but I must say that this nomination feels completely unreal," he continues.

"A War" is produced by René Ezra and Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film Production. It was filmed in the fall of 2014 in Denmark, Turkey, Spain and Jordan. It premiered in Denmark on September 10th. 2015.

13 times, Danish films have been nominated for an Oscar, and three times a Danish film has won an Oscar. The last time was in 2011 when Susanne Bier won for "In a Better World" which was produced by the Nordisk Film associated film company, Zentropa.

"A War" is distributed in the US by Magnolia Pictures. The Academy Award Ceremony will take place February 28th.
