Nordisk Film acquisitions in Cannes

Great adventures and thrilling experiences are headed for the Nordic cinemas over the next few years. During the Cannes Film Festival 2011, Nordisk Film secured the rights to a great number of star-studded Hollywood titles of high quality.

The Nordic entertainment company has secured the majority of the market's most high-profiled titles. Among these, the 3D epic "Pompeii" from Summit, a huge production with a budget of $100 million. This action-adventure has one of the most famous natural disasters as its backdrop. "Pompeii", along with an ambitious 3D animated retelling of the story about Tarzan, was sold out worldwide in just two days in Cannes. Nordisk Film is delighted to bring both of these great productions to the cinemas in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

Another famous fairy tale, the Brothers Grimm's classic tale of Snow White, comes in a fresh and new live action version in 2012, and expectations are high for this gigantic $120 million production. Nordisk Film will distribute "Snow White" in which Julia Roberts stars as the evil Queen and Lily Collins plays Snow White, while Armie Hammer stars as the prince.

Peter Philipsen, General Manager of Independent Acquisitions & Distribution, says: "The market has been excellent in Cannes this year. Nordisk Film has returned home with the most attractive titles for the Nordic film audience. Our focus is on mainstream genre movies and I dare to promise hours of intense entertainment."

During the film festival, Nordisk Film could also announce to have signed a strategic deal with one of Hollywood's heavyweights, David Linde, who in collaboration with Reliance and Universal has established a new company. Through this cooperation Nordisk Film can add further strong titles to the portfolio in the Nordic countries for the years to come and cement the company's position as the leading distributor of independent film.

Nordisk Film's acquisitions in Cannes also include (among others):

"End of Watch" (Exclusive Films), an action-thriller directed by David Ayer, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña which follows a year in the lives of two LA cops documented by their own cameras.

"The Big Wedding" (Nu Image), a hilarious comedy about a dysfunctional family coming together for a wedding. Starring Robert de Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried.
