Now it's officially confirmed and shooting has just begun in Hamburg.
PETIT tells the story about Maria, a successful career woman, who has everything she could want except for what her heart desires most of all: a child. When, after years of persistent pregnancy attempts, Maria is told that she is infertile, she embarks on a desperate pursuit for her dream child. Maria bribes Petit, a troubled dwarf in desperate straits, into helping her track down a rumored infant-prostitution ring, operating by the Czech border. In the hopes of saving a child, and in turn achieving true happiness, Maria becomes entangled in a dark world of abuse and brutality.
Acclaimed director Anders Morgenthaler is known for his distinct style and storytelling. In 2003 his animated graduation short fiction film was shown in Cannes’ Critic’s Week. His animated feature film debut PRINCESS (2006) opened Directors' Fortnight in Cannes and a year later his second film ECHO (live action) screened in festivals such as San Sebastian, London and AFI. After releasing a family animation feature in 2009 (THE APPLE AND THE WORM), Morgenthaler returns to live action with PETIT starring Kim Basinger in the lead as Maria, a woman who wants to do everything to get that last piece of the puzzle life is denying her.
Since making her motion picture debut in Barry Levinson's THE NATURAL (1984), Kim Basinger has appeared in more than forty feature films and has established herself as an international screen icon. Basinger's film credits include BATMAN (1989), 9 1/2 WEEKS (1986) and Robert Altman's READY TO WEAR (1994) and in 1998 she received an Academy Award® for her role in the critically acclaimed L.A. CONFIDENTIAL (1997). The role also earned her a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA nomination. Kim Basinger just completed shooting GRUDGE MATCH (2014) for Warner Brothers directed by Peter Segal starring opposite Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Alan Arkin and Kevin Hart. Kim Basinger also recently worked on Paul Haggis' THIRD PERSON (2013) and starred opposite Richard Jenkins in ONE SQUARE MILE (2013).
Also starring in PETIT is Canadian Jordan Prentice (IN BRUGES, 2008; MIRROR, MIRROR, 2012), Swedish Peter Stormare (ARMAGEDDON, 1998; THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS, 2009), German Sebastian Schipper (RUN LOLA RUN, 1998; 3, 2010) and German actress Sophie Rois (ENEMY AT THE GATES, 2001; 3, 2010).
