Start of production of Amanda Kernell's new film "Charter"

08.02.2019

Amanda Kernell's follow-up to her award winning and internationally acclaimed debut film"Sami Blood" started shooting on January 21 in Jokkmokk and Vuollerim in Northern Sweden and will wrap on March 21 on Tenerife.

Director Amanda Kernell is joined by many of the members of her film crew from "Sami Blood"; producer Lars G. Lindström, DoP Sophia Olsson, editor Anders Skov, composer Kristian Eidnes Selin Andersen and sound designers Brian Dyrby and Mira Falk. The maincast includes Ane Dahl Torp ("1001 Grams") and Sverrir Gudnason ("Borg vs. McEnroe") as well as debuting actors Tintin Poggats Sarri and Troy Lundkvist.

"CHARTER tells the story of Alice who realizes she is about to lose custody of her two children. In a last desperate attempt to win them over she abducts them, taking them on an illicit charter trip to the Canary Islands.”

"I myself grew up with divorced parents and I see CHARTER as a declaration of love to all divorced parents and their children. For me Charter examines every parent's greatest fear – the loss of their children. I want to explore how far one could and should go for the sake of your children.” says director Amanda Kernell

“This time, with CHARTER, we present audiences with higher production values and adynamic choice of locations; from the Swedish deep winter above the polar circle to the lava beaches and desolate desert of Tenerife. With Amanda Kernell's powerful writing and directing skills and a dedicated cast and crew from almost all of the Nordic countries we want to create a modern drama that has the potential to travel far beyond our Scandinavian borders." says producer Lars G Lindström

“We are really looking forward to working together with Amanda on this compelling emotional drama that I am confident will get a lot of attention from festivals as well as distributors.” says Susan Wendt, Managing Director TrustNordisk

CHARTER is Amanda Kernell's second film following the successful debut "Sami Blood" which world premiered in Venice 2017 where it was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label Award as well as critics association Fedeora's award for Best Debut Director. The film continued its winning streak with among others the Lux Award, Göteborg Film Festival's Dragon Award and four Swedish Film Academy Awards (Guldbagge) for Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Actress (Lene Cecilia Sparrok) as well as the Audience Award.
