The Commune by Vinterberg sold to the United States

This week the award-winning audience success The Commune by Thomas Vinterberg and Zentropa will be officially shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in the prestigious SPECIAL PRESENTATION section. Only a few days into the festival it can be announced that the film is sold to the United States for cinema release.

It is the renowned American distribution company Magnolia, who has bought the distribution rights. Magnolia has previously been very successful in distributing among others A Royal Affair by Nikolaj Arcel , A War by Tobias Lindholm (written collectively by Tobias Lindholm and Thomas Vinterberg) and The Hunt by Thomas Vinterberg in the United States. The company had success in getting all three films nominated for an Oscar for "Best Foreign Language Film ".

Previously this year The Commune became a big succes back home in Denmark where it sold 300.000 cinema tickets. It was later selected for the main competition at the Berlin Film Festival. Here Trine Dyrholm received a Silver Bear for Best Actress for her critically acclaimed performance as Anna.

At the present moment The Commune has been shortlisted by the Danish Film Institute as one of three Danish films to become the official Oscar candidate from Denmark.

Besides the United States, Zentropa and Thomas Vinterberg can rejoice that The Commune is sold to 57 countries around the world, including Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Austria, Greece, Romania, Poland, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Israel, Turkey, Columbia and Brazil. The Commune is distributed by Nordisk Film Distribution in Denmark. International sales are handled by Trust Nordisk.
